Good to see another Bonadurer posting, Dan. This time from the
La Crosse connection. To add some information about my great-grandfather Martin
Bonadurer of Galena, I found some letters written by his nephew, Peter Steier of
Savognin. His mother was Agnes Bonadurer who died in 1922. Our Martin (b. 1848)
and his brother Andreas (b. 1846) immigrated to the US together in 1870s. We do
not know where Andreas settled. My father's cousin, Vesta Sproule of Galena told
me that Martin was married previously to an Italian woman and they had two sons.
The wife and sons died in a flu epidemie and are buried in Galena. Martin then
married Carrie Dorr and had six children, my grandfather George Martin was the
first or second son, probably the second as a brother's name was Martin like his
father's.
The Steier family numbered quite a few, they are farmers (or
were farmers, the letters date back to the 1950s). There must still be Steiers
in the area. This would be a family by marriage to my great-great aunt Agnes.
Dan, my son lives in Bozeman, Montana and has an
assistaneeship at MSU in Bio-Chem. His name is David Wooster. We visited him
last summer.
I hope some other Bonadurer will post. I wonder if there is a
Chicago connection? An email from Ellen brought up some questions. Also Peter
Steier wrote that he had contacted the Schwitzerland Consul in Chicago to get my
grandfather's address.

Hello Roli:
I was looking at the vast amount of information but sicne I
don't read or speak German, I am curious. There seems to be so much research and
so many interesting facts. Will anyone be able to assist you in the future in
translating it to English? My great-grandfahter Martin Bonadurer could speak
four languages so I am told as well as had the ability to yodel and sing
opera---wish I had known him. My fahter learned some German from him though and
would speak it sometimes. I have some questions; What
happened to Marco? He had a site for awhile but it is gone. I emailed him but
nerver received a reply. Is there a list of genealogy on
your site? Are there famous people related to us? Is there
some connection with Turkey?
The last known relative of our branch of the family still in
Switzerland was Agnes or Anna? who married a Stier (Steier) and lived in Zillis
I believe.
Take care.

Hello Roli:
Love the website and especially the pictures. You have added so much since
I last was here. I only wish I spoke the language. My grandfather
was George Martin Bonadurer and his father was Martin Bonadurer from Illinois.
Still haven't been able to link up to other Bonadurers but only know that I was
told several brothers immigrated together in mid 1800s. A sister
remained--her name was Anna.
The pictures look just like I remembered them in my mind's eye when I read the
"Heidi" story as a child.
